Before the Beast
It is 1979, and the Maestro is thinking about an other car. At this time he is driving a Volvo 66 GLS, equiped with
a Weber carb, special cam and valves. But it was time for something faster. Looking for a BMW he found an Opel. It just happened to be the only Automatic on the lott. At first is was a bit of a downer, the car did not perform as was expected. So work had to be done. Tires and shocks was the first step. Then came some engine tuning, like filters, sparkplugs and timing. At this moment the car was starting to behave a little better, however it wasn't there yet. Sound tuning had to be done, no we are not talking about a radio, but an exhaust system. Changing the last muffler into a freeflow certainly helped.Read on

The beast today
Beast under construction
Somewhere in 1987, the Beast Was starting to look a little bad. The paint was dull, and the body was a bid banged up on the race track. And on a sunday afternoon a valve rocker came loose. At this time the Maestro decided it was time to realy take it back to the bone. the paint and engine were removed, windows taken out and it realy started to look bad. For a time the Maestro even thought of putting in a rover 3500 V8 engine, so lets change the body work to that of a 400. Al this is easier said than done, it took a while to obtain the parts, and they didn't even fit properly. But after some heavy sanding and pasting and some more sanding it started to look like something. Read on
The Beast is up and running ,again for two years now!!
Since it's last major overhaul the Beast is back, and meaner than before. After the big day in August 1997, the Beast has hardly changed, A bigger fuel pump, and motor mounts are the only alterations. However the Maestro is looking for some 45 mm Webers and realy wide tires 285/40 15", help him out!!
The wheels are there 10 inch wide X 15 ", just like the Manta 400, but the tires are a different story.
Unfortunately one of his neighbors drove into the right front fender, so a little paintwork is due. Changing the headlights to the 400 style will happen at the same time.
